WANTED: CLASS REPS FOR 2010-2011
Now that we all know which classes our children will be in from September, the Friends Committee (the school fundraising group of parents) are looking for 2/3 mums/dads/grandparents/carers to be representatives for their child’s class for the coming academic year. There are three main events per year where help is required, as detailed below.
1. Class Cake Sale
Every class has a cake sale each year to raise funds which go towards that particular class’s annual school trip.
Full details, guidance and support will be provided by the Friends Committee members.
New for this year:
It has been decided to pilot a new scheme for the cake sales this year by adding in a second-hand book sale and a second-hand school uniform sale at the same event. We already have a stock of books in one of the storage containers in the playground, and also a stock of second-hand uniform neatly packed and labelled.
2. Christmas Fayre
Each year St Mary’s hold a Christmas Fayre which is organised by the Friends Committee, with help from the Class Reps who rally support from other parents parents to spend 30 minutes or so on the stall on the day, including setting up and clearing away.
3. Summer Fayre
This is similar to the Christmas Fayre in that each class is allocated a stall to organise and run on the day, and again the Class Rep would need to rally support from other parents to help out on the day.
If you would like to become a Class Representative, or if you have any questions or would like to talk about it more before making a decision, please email me at

It really is great fun helping out at these events and it’s also an excellent way of meeting new people across the school who you might not otherwise come into contact with.
We look forward to welcoming you and supporting you in your role as Class Representative, and of course everyone is welcome to attend any/all of the Friends Committee Meetings – come along anytime and see what we do! The next meeting is to be held on Wednesday 8th September at 6.30pm in The Lawns.

About the Friends:
Friends of St Mary's School is a registered charity open to parents, teaching staff, Governors and anyone interested in the welfare of the school. We are a vibrant, dynamic group and our aim is to make our childrens' education a rich, varied and fun experience. We believe that a school is a community to which every parent can contribute for the benefit of their children.
We hold a number of fund raising events throughout the year including fairs, discos, car washes, cake sales and fun runs. We also organise non-profit events such as the Easter bingo and football tournament for the children of St Mary's.
Most years we raise in excess of £5000. This money has been spent on playground equipment including Naomi's Trail, the pond; the infants play area and the climbing walls. We regularly fund educational and sports equipment requested by the teachers, as well as cultural and musical experiences for the children.
We meet monthly and welcome any new members!
